Self Evaluation

I feel like my performance in art this semester was very good. I loved all the projects we worked on and it really made me feel more passionate towards art. I love doing art that involves things I love (like disney princesses). That makes me want to continue doing art at home. This class has definitely helped my find my niche in art.
Derivative Art
Sorry for this picture being sideways, I couldn't figure out how to turn it around. During this project we were supposed to take a picture and modify it to be something different. I took a Jamba Juice cup and turned it into Jumbo Juice. In order to make it look big I created a castle scene. Doing that makes it look jumbo!

Salon Style Art Project
For this project we had to draw out a golden frame and cut it out of wood. Afterwards we could either paint or do a transfer of a picture onto the middle of the frame. I decided to do transfers of Disney Princesses onto my frames because they are my favorite subject and I would love to keep them during college.

Floral Impressionism

For this project we had to take dried flower petals and create an image. By using flower petals it gives the picture a french impressionism look. My picture is of Rapunzel from the movie Tangled.

 Political Portrait Project

For this project we had to look at pictures of the two presidential candidates for 2012 and draw them from what we saw (no tracing).

Politically based collage
Create a collage from newspapers and other media sources. This collage should have political significance and a concept behind  it. I want to see the art configured like the image here, with a large boarder of clean white paper surrounding the collage.

Post-It Portrait:

Sometimes we want people to think of us differently than what we really are. This can be cause for much internal conflict, personal turmoil. Should we face who we really are? Stand up and accept the reality that is us? Can we even identify, what is this true me?  Do people see me as I see myself? Not only teenagers such as this class face this dilemma, but teachers and parents as well. Many of us live our lives not really projecting what is inside of us. What are we hiding and why? Politicians serve as a great reminder of this situation. Who are they and what do they really feel? I wish they would wear the true on their sleeves and stand up for what they really believe. I wish I would stand up for what I really believe. This project is designed to allow us to do so.

This is a photography project that incorporates an image of yourself, together with any number of post-it notes that are stuck to your physical person. Written or drawn on these notes should be clues to who you are, or who you want to be. It is important that the self-portrait contains these descriptive notes and that the notes are legible. This may require that you focus on a particular part of your body so the notes aren’t too small, or you get very creative with how you compose the image. Spend time developing a concept of what you desire to express about yourself, and be sure to consider the colors, text, and messages on the post-its.

Accentuate the Positive/ Eliminate the Negative:
In politics it is the objective of a campaign to find what they like in an issue and spin it to suit their own agenda. One image could be interpreted a thousand ways. With a bias and the proper influence, an instance, image or phrase could be sold under a number of veils. A choice to focus on a specific issue and disregard the rest is often the MO behind a political campaign.

To mimic this concept, we will explore a media exercise. This requires that we choose an existing image from whatever source you prefer; magazine, newspaper, internet, photograph, etc…, and paint out or obscure the negative space, leaving only the chosen positive space as the focus. It could be interesting to isolate specific items that may not be what the original intent of the source material. We will aim to put a different spin on the original intention of the source you have chosen then reverse the method to produce an artwork that will eliminate the positive elements of the source, turning the main focus of the image into an, alternate, or negative space. We are refocusing the interest.
